There was a time when getting botox and fillers or any cosmetic work done was associated with celebrities only and was sometimes even frowned upon. These aesthetic procedures are quickly gaining acceptance now and becoming part of everyday life in Malaysia. Non-surgical anti-ageing procedures are now trending on the scale that most working men and women are familiar with them and many get them done on a regular basis.
Word of Caution
The popularity, high demand, and desire of less expensive more fancy options have led many salons and spas to offer these services to clients. Although these are non-surgical, they are still medical procedures and should only be administered by a qualified doctor who has certification and experience in the relevant field. Workers at a local salon or spa are neither trained nor qualified enough to safely administer these procedures or even provide you with the right consultancy.
If administered incorrectly these procedures can lead to facial deformities, loss of vision and serious health complications. This is the reason we at Pinnacle Figure believe in educating the public about this procedure and putting the right information out there so people can make an informed decision.
Comparing the Aesthetic procedures
Botox, fillers and silhouette soft thread lift-share the same goal of minimizing the signs of ageing so you can look younger for longer. All these procedures are mildly invasive, slightly painful and have a little downtime. They cost less than surgery but the results are also less pronounced and temporary. Minor bruising and inflammation at the site of administration is a common side effect for these procedures which will subside in a day or two. However, they are very different in many aspects like how they work, what they help with, what age you should start with them, how long they last, and of course the cost.
Botox Injections
Botox injections contain a purified form of botulinum toxin A, which is a toxin extracted from bacteria and can be fatal if injected in higher dosage. In a smaller amount, it temporarily paralyzes the muscles and its effect fades away in three to five months. Aesthetically speaking Botox is not a corrective procedure but a preventive measure as it delays the formation of wrinkles but does not remove the existing wrinkles. It works by freezing or temporarily paralyzing the muscles whose use over time causes the formation of wrinkles. It only helps with dynamic wrinkles that are formed due to the use of facial muscles and does nothing for static wrinkles which are formed due to gravity or loss of fat under the skin. Dynamic wrinkles form on our forehead, around our eyes and mouth due to frowning, squinting, crying and laughing. Other uses of botox injection include correcting the lazy eye, muscular spasm in the neck and reducing sweating in the armpits. Botox is also helpful in relieving migraines.
Fillers
Soft tissue fillers are injected under your skin through fine needles in the problematic areas. The fillers are able to reduce the appearance of both dynamic and static wrinkles and they can do much more. The fillers may contain collagen, hyaluronic acid (HA), or fat which is capable of lifting up the sagging skin through structural support effectively making your skin tighter, plumper and your face look fuller. This is the reason filler injections are used for reshaping the nose, lips, cheeks, and chin and contouring the face overall. They’re also used to treat the eyebags, hand augmentation, and acne scars. Depending upon the filler and the site of injection, the fillers may need touch-ups after six months to two years.
Silhouette Soft Thread Lift
Thread lifts are procedures where a medical grade thread (mostly used for the surgery) is inserted under the skin using fine needles. The tread mimics the surgical uplift procedure using its bi-direction cones that anchor in the subcutaneous fat layers and pull the skin upwards. It yields immediate volumizing effect through structural support and triggers collagen production which also helps in rejuvenating the face. The procedure is more invasive and costly than soft filler injections but the results will last for 18 months or more.
Alternative Procedures
Other anti-aging treatments that are offered by unlicensed salons and spa include laser therapy, HIFU facelift, PRP therapy and mesotherapy. They are less invasive but are still required to be performed under the supervision of a qualified practitioner.
